As she continues her nursery-propagation internship, our current intern, Bella, shares details of her daily work.
At the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, we’re working to conserve plants that are endangered or at risk of extinction. That means every plant that arrives here receives personal attention and gets exactly what it needs to thrive.
Each species has unique growing requirements. When a plant is ready and stable enough to be moved into a larger container, we provide it with a custom soil mix tailored precisely to its current growth stage.
In the photos, you can see how I prepare the potting blend for transplanting:
50% washed coir (coconut fibre) - low in salts and safe for sensitive roots
35% coarse perlite - for aeration and drainage
15% tuff - a volcanic rock similar to basalt, commonly used in gardening.
