Just singing in the rain

The 26th Working Holiday group volunteering at the JBG not only brought gifts of secateurs and pruning saws but two days of heavy rain as well! Amused to find out today that it was warmer in the UK than in Israel, the group of amateur and professional gardeners gamely continued weeding and pruning when the rain started, only taking cover when the light drizzle turned into a deluge. The stream, which only minutes before had been virtually dry, was suddenly overflowing with rainwater run-off, turning into a torrent that cascaded down the Gardens and in some places overflowing onto the footpaths.
Israel has had one of its driest winters and the deep blue Lupinus pilosus were noticeably smaller than in previous years, their growth stunted by the lack of water. The British visitors will be working at the Gardens for several more days, so Israel’s water supply may yet be topped up!
